Learning Mandarin in HK?

Yorkie Bear, I thought that was 只怕四川人说普通话! Because apparently the Sichuanese think what they speak is Mandarin, when in fact it's Sichuan dialect, as opposed to people from other places who treat Mandarin like a different language than what they speak at home, and thus speak more intelligible Mandarin.

About the 什么东东: now it sounds very girlish to me, but the first time I heard this expression was from a Chinese man from Dongbei. I wonder how he had picked that up.

"什么东东" used to be quite popular on internet, regardless of gender.

About the "天不怕,地不怕" stuff, I feel that every dialect region in China has the similar version like those two above, there is no "standard" of that.

I'm sure there are lots of different versions too!

Actually you are spot on with your observation cos it was my dad (who is from Chengdu) who said it to me!

But he does know the difference between Mandarin and sichuan hua.
