taijidan Posted December 4, 2019 at 08:52 AM Report Posted December 4, 2019 at 08:52 AM Hi All, I just saw that Google pinyin input was discontinued back in march. This is from Wikipedia: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Pinyin) Quote As of March 2019, Google Pinyin has been discontinued and the download page tools.google.com/pinyin/ has been deleted. However, Google Pinyin IME can still be obtained from https://dl.google.com/pinyin/v2/GooglePinyinInstaller.exe (as of September 29, 2019). Really surprised as I thought it was very popular. Any ideas on why it got discontinued? Any suggestions on the best alternatives? Quote

imron Posted December 5, 2019 at 08:44 PM Report Posted December 5, 2019 at 08:44 PM It also has popup ads. No thanks. Quote
DavyJonesLocker Posted December 6, 2019 at 03:17 AM Report Posted December 6, 2019 at 03:17 AM I use 搜狗 on my PC , I changed from Google pinyin years ago as it seemed better, however I can't remember the exact reasons why now . 6 hours ago, imron said: It also has popup ads. No thanks. It's pretty minimal though, one a day or so. In the hundreds of mouse clicks I do in a day, its a good trade off. Quote
Dlezcano Posted December 6, 2019 at 09:52 AM Report Posted December 6, 2019 at 09:52 AM I am using 搜狗 in mac and don't get any ads at all, but I think it pop ups some advertising in Windows from time to time in a bearable extent. I ever tried Google's but 搜狗 feels more complete. I love the function which allows you to sort characters by their radical when too many homophones are listed, and I think I haven't seen that in any other IME. Quote
