zotium Posted September 13, 2005 at 02:27 AM Report Posted September 13, 2005 at 02:27 AM HellO! Is the firewall in China same across all cities? for example, if ebay.com was blocked in Beijing, could it be possible that it is not blocked in Xiamen? Can anyone help me check if this site is accessible in China? http://powervps.com/ Thanks, would appreciate your help! Quote

geek_frappa Posted September 13, 2005 at 03:12 AM Report Posted September 13, 2005 at 03:12 AM Is the firewall in China same across all cities? each firewall is different, but the entire system is provided a guiding hand. as politically needed, websites are removed and added to the black list and white list. as far as i know, there is no way to understand why some sites are baxxed (banned by proxy). One day i could got my emails from a freemailer like web.de on the next days the site was banned. After some days it was open again. It's strange. Hope I can help you. Mike Quote

aeon Posted October 1, 2005 at 07:52 PM Report Posted October 1, 2005 at 07:52 PM Tor used to work... I got about 2 months of uncensored internet access out of it earlier this year before the net nanny blocked each of the onion servers individually. If you can read the Tor FAQ page on the EFF site (which you may find is blocked in China) you'll see that the team working on Tor realise that it won't break The Great Firewall as Tor has to publish the IP addresses of the servers openly. liuzhou Posted October 2, 2005 at 01:34 AM Report Posted October 2, 2005 at 01:34 AM Tor is working just fine for me. Ssssh! Quote
aeon Posted October 2, 2005 at 07:57 AM Report Posted October 2, 2005 at 07:57 AM Tor is working just fine for me. Ssssh! But you're in Liuzhou. It's probable that I was blocked at the ISP level in Beijing, and others in the Capital are still able to use it. Tor is very easy to block if they have the will. Quote
