johnmck Posted September 13, 2005 at 07:24 AM Report Share Posted September 13, 2005 at 07:24 AM Apparently China Telecom is trying to reduce the usage of Skype (especially SkypeOut), potentially they may block all VoIP... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/12/china_blocks_skype/

MarkKang Posted September 14, 2005 at 03:42 AM Report Share Posted September 14, 2005 at 03:42 AM I have been using Call2.com, a call back out of England. 0.055 cents per minute China to the US and crystal clear. Here's the link: www.call2.com/?c2cid=MKC371 Is skype out working now? Any comments on quality from China to US?
TCcookie Posted September 15, 2005 at 08:25 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2005 at 08:25 PM That's too bad. I really like Skype and used it (SkypeOut) to call home when I was in Beijing this last month and a half. When I used a newer computer with a DSL connection (not sure of exact speed, but I think at least the up speed was quite slow, like 33kbps or less; down speed... maybe 64kbps tops?), Skype quality was awesome. It was easily cell phone quality or better and far surpassed the awful connections I got using regular IP cards (though I only tried twice at a public calling place). When I used it on an older computer, there were some delay issues, but not enough to make it not worth the reasonable rates.
snarfer Posted September 21, 2005 at 07:04 AM Report Share Posted September 21, 2005 at 07:04 AM Just tried SkypeOut. Still works fine in Beijing.
