Better methods for learning Chinese?

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I'm in a unique situation in my Chinese learning journey and I thought I would ask for help. I would describe myself as an intermediate Chinese learner, trying to get my language skills to an employable range (I work as a Japanese translator, one more language would be great!)

However I am running into the 24 hours a day problem. There is only so much time I can devote to language study because well, life happens. What I am currently doing is reading a page of Jin Yong novels a day and memorizing vocabulary words on the bus. I was recommended other web novels but Jin Yong is just so much more erudite. I also play some Hearthstone in Chinese to practice speech.

There are obviously downsides to these methods like the lack of actual speech practice and listening comprehension. I haven't enrolled in any formalized language courses because I don't have the time and I am used to studying on my own (I taught myself Japanese) I'm open to any suggestions regarding Youtube, good textbooks or the like though.
