csit Posted October 26, 2005 at 03:04 AM Report Share Posted October 26, 2005 at 03:04 AM atitarev, here's an example of what I meant: Sometimes you can download the *.rm file directly. Sometimes, you have to download a small file first and then get the link inside. To demonstrate, try this: 1. Go to http://www.studioclassroom.com/lt/lt_radio.php 2. Copy the link http://easylink.playstream.com/ortv130/051024lt.rm (from North America Oct. 24) to the "drop zone" of the XI NetTransport (a little square window with a red and yellow sideways chevron pattern on it). This copies a small file 051024lt.rm (4.00 KB) to your computer. 3. Open this file with a text editor (such as wordpad). Inside is the following: rtsp://63.251.167.31/ortv130/051024lt.rm --stop-- pnm://63.251.167.31/ortv130/051024lt.rm 4. Copy the first link (ie, rtsp://63.251.167.31/ortv130/051024lt.rm) to the Xi NetTransport. You can right click and choose New Download. 5. This downloads a 12 MB rm file 051024lt.rm--renamed 051024lt(1).rm so as not to conflict with the previous file--to your computer. *** Sometimes, though, you can just download the *.rm file directly without having to open the first, smaller file. You can also download *.mms files directly. *** PS If you want a different, free program to play Real Media files, you can use Media Player Classic. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358
atitarev Posted October 26, 2005 at 04:47 AM Report Share Posted October 26, 2005 at 04:47 AM Not sure this approach can be taken on this site (has great texts and audio in .mov format): http://faculty.virginia.edu/cll/chinese_reading/ http://faculty.virginia.edu/cll/chinese_reading/Beginning/beginning.html http://faculty.virginia.edu/cll/chinese_reading/Beginning/beginning1audio.html The .mov files are stored in ../audio directory. Opened them in a text editor, not sure if there's anything useful. The full URL for the audio files (e.g. for the 1st file) is http://faculty.virginia.edu/cll/chinese_reading/audio/beginning1.mov Would you be able to rip those files onto your PC? If yes, what would do?
johnmck Posted October 26, 2005 at 04:45 PM Report Share Posted October 26, 2005 at 04:45 PM I found the link for the windows media recorder at: http://all-streaming-media.com/ You should be able to find realplayer recorders there.
atitarev Posted October 27, 2005 at 02:23 AM Report Share Posted October 27, 2005 at 02:23 AM Thanks, Johnmc but the free programs don't work for me, like R7C Real7ime Converter - it has some dependencies for which you have to look for separately, and I also heard bad feedback abot the program - hard to configure, the others must good but they are not free. Some of them might be worth buying but I want to try one first.

Ferno Posted December 12, 2005 at 06:54 AM Report Share Posted December 12, 2005 at 06:54 AM Hmm, I have a question about Lesson 4 from the origional Chinese-tools link... - Nǐde péngyou jiào shénme míngzi? Does this happen a lot - do they have to say the person's name in relation to another character? gougou Posted December 12, 2005 at 07:13 AM Report Share Posted December 12, 2005 at 07:13 AM Pretty much all the time, as for names you can choose virtually any character. Most characters having homophones, you need to specify which one it is (unless you're OK with the other person only being able to say your name, not to write it.) atitarev Posted February 20, 2006 at 10:19 PM Report Share Posted February 20, 2006 at 10:19 PM If you read my post #30 (30th December 2005), there's more. This site keeps growing and there's much more stuff there for beginners and intermediate Chinese learners - texts with audio. Let me know if you have problems navigating in this Russian language site (the titles are also given in Chinese). http://orientaler.com/index.php
