matteo Posted March 26, 2020 at 11:23 PM Report Posted March 26, 2020 at 11:23 PM Hey all, my sister works in Kenya in some sort of big construction-related project (that apparently hasn't been put on hold due to COVID, I'm shocked. Hopefully she'll get the hell out of there soon). However, she says she often has meetings with Chinese people and that she would like to choose a Chinese name for herself. She asked me for advice as she knows I study Chinese - her name is "Cristina" and we often shorten it to "Cri" so I'd go with 克里 - but I'm not too confident about it. Suggestions / alternatives? How do you think I'd go down culturally, wouldn't it be a bit weird to know about absolutely nothing about China and still come up to someone and introduce yourself with a Chinese name? Thanks and good quarantine to everyone Quote
EnergyReaper Posted March 27, 2020 at 02:08 AM Report Posted March 27, 2020 at 02:08 AM Maybe you can use a similarly pronounced Chinese name for Cristina — 柯丽娜, Pronunciation [Klina] Quote
roddy Posted March 27, 2020 at 09:19 AM Report Posted March 27, 2020 at 09:19 AM I think it would be odd, but 克里斯蒂娜 is used for C(h)ristina, and could be shortened to 克里斯, which is used for Chris. Quote
