Read this. It is the title of a contract...but I can't find a good translation:

共同投资外资企业合同

谢谢你们

In Beijing, Usually we say 外资企业 in English when we sign a contract: a joint venture

So may it be the following?

共同投资外资企业合同

contract on together investing a joint venture

Posted

外资企业 definitely means that the foreign party is providing the investment. Joint venture is usually either 合资企业 or 合营公司, depending on whether its jointly owned or operated.

I like Roddy's translation, but would literally translate this as:

共同投资外资企业合同

Contract for Joint Investment in a Foreign Funded Enterprise

Yes, I agree with Travelyan. There is a difference between foreign founded 外资企业 enterprise and joint venture 合资企业. Than you guys. You're good!

Now I have to translate it into italian.... :wall

To be honest I find it a little unclear (which is always a good reason to go for a minimalist translation). Is it two foreign companies investing in a wholy-foreign enterprise? That seems most likely, or is it a misuse of 外资 where it should be 合资 - ie it's a foreign + Chinese company?

It is a contract among three italians for the investment in a foreign founded enterprise. The joint venture has not been constituted yet. It will happen in the future.

Is it clear now?

Ok, that makes sense - I guess I'm used to hearing of single-investor foreign-owned enterprises, or sino-foreign joint ventures, but not wholy-foreign-owned joint ventures (confusing, isn't it).

I'd agree with Trevelyan, and good luck with the Italian . . .
