For example, I remember playing a video of Chris Parker(a different Chris) for a Chinese friend to ask her what she thought of his Chinese:

I like this guy! So disappointed that he doesn’t get a lot of subscribers. His explanations are always spot on and helpful and his Chinese is so good. I don’t particularly mind the energetic Youtuber as well but I don’t find Chris boring.

I also like 杰里德 Jared

Some of his skits are really funny.

and I also like Kevin in Shanghai not a foreigner but he’s good friend with Jared and often makes video together

That’s awful! ?RIP I watched some of his videos sometime ago. I’m not particularly into the surprise foreigners with my Chinese contents but I quite enjoy some of his stuff.

This guy is giving free online Chinese courses on Youtube. I predict this type of teaching will be the next thing in language teaching. You teach 50-250 online students and a fraction of them will support you on Patreon or the like. You still make money and probably more than if you taught only 1 student on Italki

I realize you're mentioning it from the teachers earning potential. From the learners perspective it seems like OK supplementary material, I wouldn't choose it as a primary course. It's missing the elements of interaction and feedback that you get from a course with live teacher(whether online or in person).

I'd say the model for that Youtube teaching approach is the popular Español con Juan. It works well because he's got a clear voice and knows the sweet spot for many learners, neither too fast or slow. The other key is that he obviously devotes a lot of thought to his lessons.

Yes, exactly! It is a bit like you listening in for free on a course you are not signed up for. You are not allowed to participate, but you may still benefit. What I like most is listening to his explanations in Chinese.
