New Members Adi124 Posted April 30, 2020 at 05:05 PM New Members Report Posted April 30, 2020 at 05:05 PM Hey all, hope everyone is keeping safe! Bit of a project I am working on and need a bit of help. Could someone translate "Boba Milk Tea" for me in Mandarin Chinese. I know I can use google to get the translation which is showing as below but not sure if they are fully correct. Should it be Bōbā nǎi chá as opposed to Bō bā nǎichá Thanks a million. 波巴奶茶 Bō bā nǎichá Quote
Lu Posted May 1, 2020 at 07:43 AM Report Posted May 1, 2020 at 07:43 AM 珍珠奶茶 zhēnzhū nǎichá is by far the most common word for it. Wikipedia tells me that 波霸奶茶 is also used, and 泡泡茶, but I don't think I've ever seen either of these. Quote
889 Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:13 AM Report Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:13 AM Depends on where you're using the translation. A restaurant menu might go for the more formal 珍珠奶茶. In dialog between two teenagers you'd probably find some Chinese way of saying "bubble tea." Quote

889 Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:56 AM Report Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:56 AM For the name of a small place serving the stuff, I'd go for a Chinese version of the English "bubble tea:" it's more fun to say than 珍珠奶茶. In fact, I sometimes wonder whether the name itself has something to do with its popularity. But what two characters best represent "bubble" may depend on where you are. Quote

889 Posted May 1, 2020 at 09:16 AM Report Posted May 1, 2020 at 09:16 AM I mean characters that together sort of sound like the English word "bubble." There's 泡泡茶 and 波霸奶茶 and 波巴奶茶 mentioned above. There may be other combinations being used, I'm not sure. If you're looking for a shop name, not just something descriptive, I suppose you could use a couple of characters from the b-b brigade of your own choosing. 1 Quote
