889 Posted May 2, 2020 at 08:16 AM Report Posted May 2, 2020 at 08:16 AM The seal on the first photo reads 康熙御筆之寶. This is the seal of the Emperor Kangxi, and the scroll is a reproduction of his calligraphy on a stele in Beijing. https://read01.com/ggP2mDP.html http://en.pgm.org.cn/newenglish/cultural/201409/2799944f02a2498e8e9521bb59be668b.shtml 2 Quote
Jim Posted May 2, 2020 at 08:34 AM Report Posted May 2, 2020 at 08:34 AM Just realised the middle one is the cover to Zen Flesh, Zen Bones. I had that paperback though have left it somewhere along the way. ETA Or maybe mixing it up with an Alan Watts book. Definitely familiar. ETA Ah ha, it was Watts: 2 Quote

Im fascinated by all this @Jim You are right, it is the way of Zen by A. Watts! @889 Thanks vm for the links! Is the first letter to the left of the Fu sign and and of the Alan Watts cover the same ? (i know it's the wrong direction, but the only way I can explain...) Even the first letter in the third image looks the same, apart from the second letter which is below and obviously different. I'm trying to compare Quote

Yes, they are the same: 礻. These 'letters' are called radicals or character components (if you're interested in how Chinese characters are built, Wikipedia is a decent starting point). The 礻 radical is mostly used in characters for things related to religion, spirituality, gods etc. Quote
