How to say "color (something)"?

For example, how would you say "color the shirt red"? 

While I'm here, how do you say paint? For example, "paint the sky blue."

For colouring like a colouring book, there's 涂色 and 填色; if you're dyeing the shirt that's 染 -- 染成红色. To paint blue would be 涂成蓝色 -- 把天空涂成蓝色.

colour (with a pen) the shirt red 把衬衫涂红

paint the sky blue 把天空刷蓝

"着色"和"涂色“意思一样， 但用法稍有不同。 

 

用“着色”时，一般很少指明着上什么色，例如： 请给这幅图涂上蓝色。  很少这样说： 请给这幅图”着“上蓝色。

Thank you, everyone! Sorry I was a little slow to show my appreciation. I got sidetracked. But I totally get it now. Dictionaries just have never been helpful. They always just give nouns.  I have been saying this in a strange way for a while because I was way past my coloring book phase when I learned Chinese ?.
