i__forget Posted June 8, 2020 at 03:09 PM Report Share Posted June 8, 2020 at 03:09 PM Does anyone know if it's possible to read articles in Baidu, for example (https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E5%91%BC%E5%90%B8%E6%9C%BA) in such a way so that when we reduce the width of the window, we don't have to scroll horizontally in order to read the text? This is a problem with many Chinese websites i think, with Wikipedia this is not a problem. How do you deal with this ? Thanks
Demonic_Duck Posted August 7, 2020 at 04:27 PM Report Share Posted August 7, 2020 at 04:27 PM Presumably you're viewing on a smallish screen or at a high zoom level? It seems the layout works for large screens and on mobile (with a different version served on mobile), but you might have issues at middling screen sizes. If you're using Google Chrome, you have a couple of options. The easy way: Install a reading mode extension, such as one of these: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/reading mode?hl=en Enable it for the Baidu Baike site Firefox has similar extensions available, too. The hard way (if you don't want to install extensions): Navigate to the Baidu Baike site Press Ctrl+Shift+J to open developer tools* Press Ctrl+Shift+P to open the command menu* Search "Show Network Conditions" and click the result Uncheck "User agent > Select automatically" Choose one of the Android options from the list Press F5 to refresh *Command instead of Ctrl on Mac This will make Baidu Baike think you're accessing from an Android device, so it'll serve up the mobile version, which doesn't seem to have this problem. (Incidentally, it looks like this thread is in the wrong subforum.) 1
