trevelyan Posted September 19, 2005 at 05:55 AM Report Posted September 19, 2005 at 05:55 AM Yes. Just go to the local police station (派出所) with your passport and address. I've never needed my landlord to accompany me, although you should have his/her name and phone number. Incidentally, DO NOT LOSE the stamped receipt they give you. Place it somewhere safe since you may need it to do things like in-county visa-extensions. It's also your record that you've actually registered. Quote
zotium Posted September 20, 2005 at 06:29 AM Report Posted September 20, 2005 at 06:29 AM Did you need to pay anything? I'm past the 24 hour deadline and it's my 4th day now, are they going to fine me or anything? Quote
roddy Posted September 20, 2005 at 06:34 AM Report Posted September 20, 2005 at 06:34 AM They can fine you up to 500Y if you are late, but chances are that if you don't leave it too long and apologise, then they'll be lenient. They'll have seen people who've left it 4 months, 4 days isn't likely to worry them too much. Quote
MarkKang Posted September 20, 2005 at 06:46 AM Report Posted September 20, 2005 at 06:46 AM The last time I registered (in Zhengzhou), I was asked for a copy of the title and rental contract. Quote
zhwj Posted September 20, 2005 at 10:14 AM Report Posted September 20, 2005 at 10:14 AM I guess it depends on where you go. The station where I live (Beitaipingzhuang) insisted that the landlord or a close relative accompany me, with their title to the apartment, their hukou, and the IDs of everyone in their hometown (or so it seemed). That was last year. Then today, as I was going to extend my visa, I realized that my residence registration had expired back in March. Needless to say, the visa folks turned me away, and when I went to the local station, they made me go and get the landlord again. The guy at the station really chewed me out, but he didn't make me pay any fine. So, like in any paperwork situation, your mileage definitely may vary. Quote
zotium Posted September 20, 2005 at 01:45 PM Report Posted September 20, 2005 at 01:45 PM i guess i'll try my best then with my broken putonghua. a friend said a possible reason why the landlord isn't motivated to help me out is because he has to pay a 5% tax of the total rent amount to the local station Quote
