mungouk Posted October 10, 2020 at 07:55 PM Report Share Posted October 10, 2020 at 07:55 PM Is anyone here using 5G on the mainland? In particular I'm wondering if it's worth investing in one of the Portable WiFi access points that supports 5G, as I will quite probably have to stay somewhere with poor internet connectivity when I finally make it back to Hangzhou in a few weeks. Something like this maybe? https://item.jd.com/63637844826.html Also, what's a reliable source for checking 5G coverage in China? This "white paper" by Huawei makes Hangzhou sound like a 5G paradise, but of course it could all just be marketing spin. Then again since Alibaba's HQ is in town, maybe they've pushed for infrastructure there or something?
889 Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:24 PM Report Share Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:24 PM I got the Xiaomi 10 Lite 5G a couple months ago and it's about the most reasonably priced 5G model around. Works fine in general, though I haven't tested 5G on it anywhere yet. It supports WiFi hotspot and Bluetooth tethering, though again, I haven't tested these functions.
mungouk Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:30 PM Author Report Share Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:30 PM Well yes the other option is to get a new phone... iPhone 12 with 5G is rumoured to be announced next week. Hmmm. Is the Xiaomi 10 "lite" the same as this one? https://item.jd.com/100014565820.html
889 Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:37 PM Report Share Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:37 PM No, that's the more expensive unLite. This is what I'm talking about: https://mobile.mi.com/uk/mi-10-lite/ As always you need to check frequencies carefully.
mungouk Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:43 PM Author Report Share Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:43 PM Ah OK that looks like it's probably this one, with the 骁龙765G processor (Snapdragon 765?)... https://item.jd.com/100012816020.html 2000RMB for a 5G phone sounds very good. 889 Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:49 PM Report Share Posted October 10, 2020 at 08:49 PM Yes, that's it. The blue/green model looks cool, especially since the back is Gorilla Glass. Nice screen, sound and cameras for the money. Not wild about the on-screen fingerprint unlock. Also, can't expand storage. Review and comments here: https://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_10_lite_5g-10159.php Remember, Xiaomi names their phones with confusingly similar names. Take care!
