perjp Posted September 21, 2005 at 12:51 PM Report Posted September 21, 2005 at 12:51 PM Hi, I've used wenlin since day one of my Chinese studies, and plecodict until my palm broke down. It has helped me greatly in my studies, largely thanks to the excellent abc dictionary. For studying Japanese, I have a fancy denshi jisho for when I study with pen and paper. I'm on the lookout for something similar to Wenlin to use on my computer though. I've tried some free JDIC-based ones, but I'd really like the option to buy something as nice as Wenlin with good commercial-quality dictionaries. Any ideas? Quote
stephanhodges Posted September 21, 2005 at 06:39 PM Report Posted September 21, 2005 at 06:39 PM I don't study Japanese, but one of the free Japanese/Chinese tools is "wakan". They are probably 80% Japanese users. Their forum is very active. The tool is quite good too, but I can't speak to the extend of the dictionary. http://wakan.manga.cz/forum/ BTW, Wenlin has a new (minor) update 3.3 available. Quote
atitarev Posted September 21, 2005 at 10:00 PM Report Posted September 21, 2005 at 10:00 PM I have been looking for an equivalent Japanese program too. Wakan is not as good as Wenlin. I think it just doesn't exist (or too expensive). I can say the reverse for the quality of Chinese character paper dictionaries. I've got excellent Kodansha Japanese dictionaries, for which I couldn't find Chinese analogues. Quote
