Please help me identify a modern Chinese movie

Sometime around 2018 I was on a BA flight and saw a Chinese art-house movie with little dialogue, atmospheric, that involved:

 

• A single man journeying on a riverboat up the Yellow or Yangtze river
• Quotes from Lao Tzu, and possible other philosopher poets are interspersed 
• At one point encounters a woman that seems to be from his past who lives near the side of the river, whom he has a tryst with 
• The movie seemed to be about moving backward through time

I was exhausted from a long week at work, away from home, and I had dozed off several times while watching the film in spite of being pulled into it.  

Would love to see it again.

Can anyone help?

Thanks. It is not on Amazon Prime Germany. I will check if they let me watch it on the US version.
