A reaserch in Idioms

Hello all, I'm applying for the CSC scholarship this year, I will choose 文学 as my major but found out there are many categories "if that what is called" that fall under 文学.

I want to do my research and graduation thesis about 成语，so should I choose 外国语言学及应用语言学 or 语言学及应用语言学，and what are the deferences? Please provide me with the accurate answer as it feels like no one knows the right major for this topic.

Neither of those sound like they'd have much to do with 文学 (literature). 语言学 is linguistics, which is the science of language — stuff like how grammar works and how languages evolve. 应用语言学 is applied linguistics, and 外国语言学 would be linguistics for foreign (non-Chinese) languages.

 

If you're looking for a course focused on Chinese but aimed at non-native speakers, look for anything named "对外" rather than "外国".

 

You could study 成语 from a 文学 point of view or from a 语言学 point of view, but your focus and methods of study would be very different.

If you want to focus your research on 成语, 语言学及应用语言学 is okay. Additionally, Beijing Language and Culture University offers a master's in 汉语言文字学, which seems also suitable.
