App resource for etymology dictionaries

Recommended Posts

The classic guoxuedashi.com website for those that use it has been rendered all but useless in the last year or so. However, I have found an excellent app that covers all the bases by accident, and thought it worth sharing here.

以觀書法 is a new app that I've been using for a few months now for reading calligraphy. However, I only just discovered the 字典 search function provides multi-dictionary entries, with direct references to classic etymology dictionaries (no they are not a replacement for Outlier, yes you should definitely still consult them). This is a must for anyone interested in etymology, classical Chinese or those searching for free C-C dictionaries, highly recommended (until it inevitably goes down and/or starts implementing a membership fee)

I found it in the Apple Store, it's good. Beautiful calligraphy and the dictionary links are full of information. Another labyrinth to get lost into. Thanks!

I found it searching by the copied and pasted Chinese name in my UK iPad's 'App Store' app, was never asked to specify a store.
