Dawei3 Posted March 15, 2021 at 01:50 AM Report Share Posted March 15, 2021 at 01:50 AM A friend explained 彩虹屁 is exaggerated praise when you want to make someone happy. 1. Anymore insights on this? An English equivalent? 2. Examples of use? 谢谢!

EnergyReaper Posted March 15, 2021 at 03:12 PM Report Share Posted March 15, 2021 at 03:12 PM When I watch Korean idol groups' music video reaction, I often hear their huge fans' 彩虹屁. 韩国人到底多会吹彩虹屁?

I've been trying to think of an English equivalent but couldn't come up with any. Maybe someone more into pop culture than me can help. Tomsima Posted March 16, 2021 at 12:11 AM Report Share Posted March 16, 2021 at 12:11 AM Feel like the term isn't so much translatable as a word, but as a 'format' of coining new words: eg. Beliebers, Cumberbitches, Twihards all making fun of 'diehard 彩虹屁 fans'

A nice translation challenge.
mungouk Posted March 17, 2021 at 07:20 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2021 at 07:20 AM Maybe "blowing smoke up your arse" (or "ass")... meaning to flatter someone with false praise? It doesn't really capture the "bullshit"/"nonsense" aspect of 屁 as in 狗屁 though, and as @Luxi mentioned it's a shame to lose the rainbow imagery.
