alex Posted January 2, 2004 at 07:12 PM Report Posted January 2, 2004 at 07:12 PM Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had some recommendations for television series that might be considered easy to understand, or rather, easy to learn from, for a beginner (not total beginner, but not intermediate either). I'm guessing kids shows/cartoons would be the best for this kind of thing but maybe there's a simple soap opera out there! Thanks Quote
confucius Posted January 2, 2004 at 07:29 PM Report Posted January 2, 2004 at 07:29 PM Watching Mandarin TV shows that have Chinese character subtitiles is good practice. You hear how Chinese words are pronounced as you see them on the screen while simultaneously understanding the context in which they are being used. I can't think of any specific shows to recommend but as long as there are Chinese subtitles then it's good use of your time. Usually movies and drama series have this feature. Quote
baining tang Posted February 16, 2010 at 03:03 AM Report Posted February 16, 2010 at 03:03 AM you know what is a pretty good series, "Doriman" it is a blue cat. I can't remember the Chinese name but here is a link http://space.tv.cctv.com/podcast/xxh2 it is actually funny too, and there are a ton of episodes. It is about a guy who invents a robot cat who he send to the past to help himself out because he gets bullied all the time. Pretty easy to understand and helps listening to fast speaking! Quote
pom45i Posted February 16, 2010 at 07:22 PM Report Posted February 16, 2010 at 07:22 PM Pleasant goat and big big wolf. Really easy to follow and it is quite a good anime, even for grown up. Here we subbed a few episode: http://www.viikii.net/channels/goto/PleasantGoatAndBigBigWolf Quote
zhuhao Posted July 6, 2010 at 07:09 AM Report Posted July 6, 2010 at 07:09 AM My favorite kids' TV show when I was studying in Xi'an a few years ago was 家有儿女, which is a live-action show about a three-kid family in southern China (I think?). The first episode is great, because they go through explaining how this family comes to have three children (the two parents are divorced and then had a kid together, obviously, but it's hilarious that they had to explain it); otherwise it's just your average kids getting into trouble sort of story. You can find the first 100 episodes with Chinese subtitles on Youku - http://www.youku.com/playlist_show/id_309142.html (to start from episode one, scroll back to page 5). You can find season 4 on Tudou - http://www.tudou.com/playlist/playindex.do?lid=6827253 . It stretched my vocab a little, but most importantly it got me used to listening to rapid-fire Chinese. And also, little kids whining. ;) Quote
murrayjames Posted July 15, 2010 at 03:09 AM Report Posted July 15, 2010 at 03:09 AM The "blue cat" series mentioned above is originally from Japan. The English name is Doraemon. In Chinese it's known as 哆啦A梦, 小叮当 or 机器猫 (I've seen all three names used). Do a simple Baidu search for 哆啦A梦. Links to video will pop up. "Pleasant Goat and Big Bad Wolf" is 喜羊羊 in Chinese. This series is well-known to anyone who lives in China. Most Chinese people I've met either love or hate it. I like it. Here's a Youku link to all 530 (530!) episodes: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTI2NzYzNDU2.html Quote
Chinadoog Posted July 15, 2010 at 03:49 AM Report Posted July 15, 2010 at 03:49 AM Anyone know where it's possible to watch Doraemon with simplified chars? On tudou and youku it seems to be all traditional. Quote
