Hi!

I started learning Chinese few days ago (it's not going well, tho. Well, it just takes time...) and I'm thinking about choosing my name

My „latin” name is Avis, so I chosen 阿维斯, but I don't know if I really want sinicized name, I'd rather want Chinese name similiar to latin one.

Can you help me? Thanks in advance!

Much better to wait a while.

I agree on waiting, once you get into an environment with Chinese colleagues or classmates etc. you'll end up with something more natural just through ordinary interaction IME.

I didn't plan on getting a Chinese name, and I always insisted on using my English name even in Chinese settings. Then one day a Chinese auntie I knew decided that she couldn't pronounce or remember my English name, so she made up a Chinese name to call me. After a while that became my Chinese name.

@Takeshi, The same here. I haven't really thought much about picking a Chinese name. Sounds interesting but not that interesting.
Then a teacher recently made one up for me and began calling me with it. I rather like it!
