What is best #1 or #2? (or give me your own translation) 

 

This is my translation:

 

1. wo zai gei wo di di yi ge qiu. = I am giving my younger brother a [cl.] ball.

 

"zai" in this case indicating an action in progress. I add the "am" to the translated sentence but wonder if I should leave it out as not being exact

 

2. wo zai gei wo di di yi ge qiu. = I giving my younger brother a [cl.] ball.

1 is obviously better, since 2 is not a correct English sentence.

 

I'm assuming you're learning Chinese, not translation. If that is correct, don't worry too much about the exact translation, as long as you understand the sentence. And you got the meaning correct, so: good!
