New Members GraceKim Posted June 28, 2021 at 10:35 AM New Members Report Posted June 28, 2021 at 10:35 AM Hi, Is CIE AS level Chinese equivalent to HSK 3? I am planning to apply for Universities in Germany for winter semester to study pharmacy next year. And I've found out that I need 1 AS level language for the academic requirements. But unfortunately, I am not able to seat for them in this year and even if I seat for them next year, results are coming out in August which does not match the deadline for enrolment in Germany (which end around mid of July). However, I've certificated HSK 3 on 2019. I've not studied Chinese for already 2 years but if CIE AS level Chinese is equivalent to HSK 3, I am planning to study them form now onwards and seat for the exam on this October. Can anyone pls tell me if Is CIE AS level Chinese equivalent to HSK 3. I'm really desperate about it :'( Quote
mungouk Posted June 28, 2021 at 12:55 PM Report Posted June 28, 2021 at 12:55 PM Assuming that by "CIE" you mean Cambridge, AS Level languages grades A*-C are benchmarked as CEFR B1 (apparently). Hanban claim that HSK 3 is equivalent to B1, but this is disputed by other European language bodies — including the Fachverband Chinesisch — who put it closer to A1-A2. So, it depends on who your German university believes. Quote
tsitsi Posted June 28, 2021 at 05:53 PM Report Posted June 28, 2021 at 05:53 PM AS level one can study well in short period of time if you have the syllabus and material. I'd say go for it, register for October AS exam, because you already have HSK 3 and not starting from scratch the syllabus will tell you your gaps and you can swot for those. You are closer than HSK 1 or 2 and nothing to lose except not trying Good luck with exams and uni applications Quote
