LiMo Posted August 26, 2021 at 12:24 PM Report Posted August 26, 2021 at 12:24 PM (edited) Hi all, I've been going through my old university Chinese texts. Sadly, it looks like the 2015 version of me was not very good at keeping things organised and I've lost quite a few. I had a really good time reading and translating some of these texts and there's one in particular that I'd like to find again. I'm only in possession of the translation and not the orginal text, and there's no author or title to go by (see attachment). The genre is 散文 and the author is presumably quite famous or my teacher wouldn't have chosen her. She worked at the Chinese Academy of Sciences during the cultural revolution and wrote this particular piece recounting the time when she and her husband Mocun (莫存?) were sent down to the countryside. It's quite a touching piece and I really wanted to find the original essay and perhaps more of her work. I'd very much appreciate it if you could take a look and see if you can point me in the right direction. Jim Posted August 26, 2021 at 12:44 PM Report Posted August 26, 2021 at 12:44 PM Are you sure you have the right attachment, the piece I just downloaded is in Chinese 三十年的重量 by 余秋雨 who seems to be a man so I wonder if it's not the essay you intended. 1 Quote

Jim Posted August 26, 2021 at 01:36 PM Report Posted August 26, 2021 at 01:36 PM Found it! https://baike.baidu.com/item/下放记别/9840230?fr=aladdin Stuck a few key terms into Baidu and after a bit of fiddling it came up. ETA I see it's by Qian Zhongshu's wife, so presumably Mocun is him? And another edit, yes, I see 默存 was his zi 1 1 Quote
