New Members culturestride Posted September 2, 2021 at 03:09 AM New Members Report Posted September 2, 2021 at 03:09 AM Hi everyone, I'm a Chinese born Australian (华裔) and I struggled a lot with learning Chinese growing up. I've been building a Sydney-based Mandarin learning platform called Culturestride to attempt to create a better learning solution for learners like me that are trying to learn Mandarin outside of China. We've recently released a format of language classes ("Practical classes") that's aimed at creating a more creative and communicative way for learners to pick up Mandarin conversationally and I have a couple of these online group conversation Practical classes for Mandarin Chinese that have some unfilled spots in them that I can give out for free. The class is with 3 other students facilitated by a teacher in China and focuses on building up your everyday conversational ability in Mandarin like introducing yourself, learning about a new friend, ordering at restaurants, etc and are level adjusted. They also only cost money if you wish to continue joining weekly (9 AUD/7 USD per 1hr class). Please see the 9 classes with >0 members in them here (I won't list them out because everyone is on different timezones): https://culturestride.com/practical?utm_source=chineseforums If these classes and sharing them is of value to everyone, I can keep doing so since these unfilled spots do pop up every now and then. Any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. Cheers! Quote
NinKenDo Posted September 4, 2021 at 09:54 PM Report Posted September 4, 2021 at 09:54 PM Looks interesting, are we supposed to guage our level based on our formal knowledge, or on what level we can comfortably converse at already? I'd say my formal knowledge outstrips my conversational ability substantially. Quote
New Members culturestride Posted September 6, 2021 at 12:49 AM Author New Members Report Posted September 6, 2021 at 12:49 AM Conversational ability for sure since we try to minimise level gaps between students in the class. There's a little speaking test within the sign up process which helps you join the correct one Quote
外留者 Posted December 18, 2021 at 02:10 AM Report Posted December 18, 2021 at 02:10 AM I am thinking about giving this a shot (and I am in Sydney too), but as I am self taught, I do not really know what my HSK level might be. Quote
