What kind of festivities, if any, are there going to be in Beijing? Is there going to be anything worth seeing?

I also heard that throughout the week there will be some cultural program, movies and the like. Anybody knows more about this?

Nothing much really happens. There may be minor activities in Tian. Square, but a part from that little else.

The October holidays are very much a travelling/holiday period for the locals.

keetaec's question:

try

国庆节快乐 guóqìngjié kuàilè, it kinda has the feeling of "Happy 4th of July,"

("Congratuations on your Indendepence Day", unless it's a double entendre might sound a little patronizing, non? )

(& btw: "congratulating" maybe pronounced with a "d" in some parts of the world, it is actually spelt with a "t")
