Kenny同志 Posted October 15, 2021 at 02:00 PM Report Posted October 15, 2021 at 02:00 PM Hi folks, I find this word particularly hard to translate into English in some contexts, for example, 市長Steve Trump一行對本縣生豬生產情況進行了調研. How would you put it in English? Quote
889 Posted October 16, 2021 at 09:02 PM Report Posted October 16, 2021 at 09:02 PM Yes, it's something of a Squad Squad term, but "research study" is common here. 1 Quote

Mayor Steve Trump, along with some other government officials, arrived in xxx (County Name) to learn about/gather information on the local pig farming industry. Well, this is my best attempt. I can't think of a better translation. The problem is that 'learn about' seems a bit too weak and general while 'gather information on' is a little wordy and technical-sounding. I could be wrong though. Quote
Guest realmayo Posted October 25, 2021 at 12:08 PM Report Posted October 25, 2021 at 12:08 PM "fact-finding mission/trip" will sometimes work, will sometimes sound too grand. Mayor Steve Trump led a fact-finding trip to Mou County to learn more about the local pig farming industry. Quote
Kenny同志 Posted October 25, 2021 at 12:14 PM Author Report Posted October 25, 2021 at 12:14 PM Thanks Real Mayo. I think it's perfect for propaganda, which is designed to sound big. Quote
