It is sometimes still really hard at times. But, it gets better. I can only recommend listening a lot and ideally repeatedly listen to the same audio again and again. mungouk Posted October 19, 2021 at 06:15 AM Report Share Posted October 19, 2021 at 06:15 AM Allset Learning have quite a few resources to help with listening and identifying tones, in their Chinese Pronunciation Wiki. https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/pronunciation/ https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/pronunciation/Tone_pairs this interactive chart has native-speaker audio for all pinyin sounds: https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/pronunciation/Pinyin_chart also https://www.sinosplice.com/learn-chinese/tone-pair-drills Wordswing, co-founded by Olle Linge of HackingChinese.com also has a tones course and quiz you can take. It does get easier with practice of course! Good luck.
Flickserve Posted October 27, 2021 at 04:22 AM Report Share Posted October 27, 2021 at 04:22 AM 3 weeks is not long. Keep practicing with apps and if possible native speakers. I used to put mandarin on the radio when driving to work - not for comprehension but to get used to the sounds, tones and rhythm. I would sort of drift in and out of concentrating on the voices. Getting used to listening to tones takes time. 1
New Members stefangrim Posted October 29, 2021 at 06:38 PM New Members Report Share Posted October 29, 2021 at 06:38 PM Guys, even my Chinese friends can't always understand the tone right away, so that's normal. Especially for only three weeks.
