Pengyou Posted December 5, 2021 at 02:32 AM Report Posted December 5, 2021 at 02:32 AM My brother passed away Saturday. Fortunately, I think my sister in law will have the memorial service near the end of January (he is being cremated). Right now, a rt plane ticket from Beijing to San Francisco is about $2,400 (cheapest). Do any of you have any suggestions on how to get a lower flight? It seems that only 3 airlines flying to the US have bereavement rates, and they are so limited that they are useless for me. I would appreciate any thoughts. Quote
889 Posted December 5, 2021 at 04:22 AM Report Posted December 5, 2021 at 04:22 AM Fares from PEK then are truly extortionate. Fly from Shanghai instead. I'm seeing all-in r/t fares on Air Canada to SFO at less than USD1,000 late January. Cheaper to LAX. Of course via Canada not as quick as a direct flight. Note the flight makes a short stop at Inchon. 1 Quote
道艺 Posted December 5, 2021 at 07:34 AM Report Posted December 5, 2021 at 07:34 AM Was about to say this. Got a round trip flight to Hawaii from Pudong with Air Canada for just over 1k Quote
vellocet Posted December 5, 2021 at 10:28 AM Report Posted December 5, 2021 at 10:28 AM Weird! When I went to Toronto, Air Canada was almost double the price of a comparable airfare to the US. It was $1500 compared to $800-900 for the same flight mileage. Of course you have to add 3 weeks hotel stay at your own expense on return to China to the cost. Quote
Pengyou Posted December 6, 2021 at 01:09 AM Author Report Posted December 6, 2021 at 01:09 AM What website were you using to get that $931? Quote
889 Posted January 21, 2022 at 08:02 PM Report Posted January 21, 2022 at 08:02 PM Direct China-US flights are being heavily cut back, so expect whatever tickets remain now to be scarce and expensive. Flying through a third country may be the only practicable option left. https://www.flightglobal.com/networks/us-dot-suspends-44-flight-segments-served-by-chinese-carriers/147215.article 1 Quote
