I found this in the description of a word in the "Chengdu Dialect Dictionary." What does 梗 mean in "田野中人工修筑的或自然形成的梗或臺階形狀的梗?"

Help is much appreciated.

? The low bank of earth between paddy fields, the 一 and 丨 in the pictograph 田.

It’s also used as slang that means “punchline/origin of joke” or so. Like “… 是什么梗?” (Mainland only)

I've always associated the slang 梗 with Japanese ギャグ, which in its turn is a loanword from English -- 'gag', e.g. オヤジギャグ old man's gag -> lame joke.
