jaapgrolleman Posted February 11, 2022 at 02:05 AM Report Share Posted February 11, 2022 at 02:05 AM I celebrated Chinese New Year in rural Nantong (a big city near Shanghai), and walked around the area talking Chinese. It's very different from a speech which I did before, because it's on-the-roll and not really prepared. I had some mistakes but still kinda happy. It's also a really relaxing way to use your Mandarin. https://youtu.be/SHEBGHPLyjQ
malazann Posted February 11, 2022 at 11:04 PM Report Share Posted February 11, 2022 at 11:04 PM nice video. i wonder if someone here can help you understand what was said @9:22 haha. I'm afraid when I got to China eventually, this will be my average interaction. Not understanding random strangers. Would be fun if I made a similar video in my own (australian) city and got a tutor to fix all my many many mistakes though
jaapgrolleman Posted February 11, 2022 at 11:14 PM Author Report Share Posted February 11, 2022 at 11:14 PM Thanks! 9:22 is just something like 你干嘛? but local dialect, but even my girlfriend who's from the area doesn't understand what she said. Publius Posted February 13, 2022 at 09:23 AM Report Share Posted February 13, 2022 at 09:23 AM I noticed you used 所以 to translate the introductory "So", which doesn't make much sense in Chinese. I remember a discussion around here. But it doesn't seem to give a definitive answer.

Thanks, something to look out for!
