I've had the pleasure of watching a lot of 新闻联播 the last few weeks and I can confirm that certainly for the top stories each evening, it is usually is an endless string of 习近平's! I know that if the General Secretary is doing anything newsworthy, he has to appear at the top of the running order: if the #1 has done something trivial, and the #2 or #3 or #4 has done something very important, the #1 is still supposed to come first, then the #2, and so on. I think that's always been the case. What may have increased in recent years is the number of namechecks in items further down the running order. Quote
abcdefg Posted April 26, 2022 at 09:06 PM Report Posted April 26, 2022 at 09:06 PM Even though watching 新闻联播 was a "daily ritual" when living in China, I can't really say I miss it much now. 1 Quote
