看了又看 variant ?

Hello everyone, I just came across this sentence and I was wondering what's going on in it. 我们担心孩子有病，于是带着儿子去了好多医院，看了西医又看中医    

This 看了西医又看中医 looks a lot like the 看了又看 structure but with words crammed into it, so I guess it would mean they visited occidental medecine doctors and chinese medecine doctors over and over again.Am I in the wrong ?  I'll be gratefuk for any kind of help ?

I don't think it has the over-and-over sense here. They saw Western medicine doctors and also Chinese ones. How else would you simply express that? It's the 好多 that gives the sense of seeing many doctors. Take that out and what do you have: 于是带着儿子去了医院，看了西医又看中医。

The only thing that I'm gonna go "over and over," is my echoing what @889 has already said, but in my OCD-esque way.
 

Instead of employing any particular grammar pattern (there's no "看了又看 structure" going on here), the sentence uses 又 in a straightforward way.

 

Keep in mind that 又 has many meanings.

In the context of the sentence, 又 does not mean "repetition" (no "over and over" meaning, per the context).
Instead, the 又 used here, means "also" (@889's translation of the sentence fragment flows better using, "and also" in "They saw Western medicine doctors and also Chinese ones").
 

I see "看了西医又看中医" as meaning, "saw doctors in Western medicine as well as Traditional Chinese medicine".
(I used "as well as" but @889's usage of "and also" is equally valid; translation is not an exact science.)

If you want a clean grammar rule this falls into, think of it as the 又…又… type pattern with the first 又 dropped for simplicity.
