meaning of 'map'

I've been still working on some gas turbine stuff. And I was wondering whether any of you could give me a bit of a hint as to what 'map' means in the following sentences. It's a really tricky word for me.

I think most likely they are talking about performance curves like these https://www.turbomachinerymag.com/view/what-do-typical-performance-maps-of-gas-turbine-show

which would describe the relationship between fuel consumption and generator speed/turbine entry temperature.

 

However mine is just a guess, gas turbines are very complex and in order to understand precisely (without being an expert) a lot more context and study would be needed.
