Quick question... I was looking at BNU's site. It said that they do not accept single applications from students. Is this true? I'd like to go over and study on my own (and also, I don't know anyone else really who speaks Chinese at my level and would like to go), so this is a bit of a problem. Any confirmations and/or denials of this? The other thing I'm wondering is what the cost of living in China would be for a student?

They might not accept individual applications for summer / short-term courses, but normally I think it would be no problem. There's a fair amount of discussion about BNU on here, try this, and also searching.

Also, recent discussion on Cost of Living

Thanks for the answer.

... I guess I have another question, then. I'm looking for a short term program-- about two months. I've heard bad things about some of the groups you can find online like educasian, but I'm just not sure where else I could find a short term summer study program? Would you have any ideas or reccomendations?

Well, to answer your first question, BNU does accept single applications EXCEPT in the summer period. Fall and winter are OK. As far as small group study for two months, I know there are many Chinese language schools in Beijing like in Wudaokou that are pretty good and don't charge an arm and leg like Educasian. Unfortunately, I don't have their contact info here in the US.

Hello, does anyone know if this BNU not accepting individuals applying to study there in the summer is still true?

I plan to do BNU Spring 2010, and then stay on for the summer session.

I guess if they say no, I can always flip to BLCU summer or something.
