bhchao Posted October 7, 2005 at 07:14 AM Report Posted October 7, 2005 at 07:14 AM I have been listening to Korean pop music lately and highly recommend these albums. The rhythms are amazing. These singers can really sing. Recommended albums: 1. This Is Me by 김종국 (Kim Jong Kook) I have placed an order for this album. Kim sings with a lot of emotion in this album, with a mix of fast and slow songs. I like the upbeat tone of Track #6. 2. My Sweet and Free Day by Ivy (아이비) Bought this one and like it a lot. My favorite is 바본가봐 (Ba Bon Ga Bwa, "A Fool", Track #5). This girl has strong vocals. Most of the songs on this album have an R&B flavor. Full version of 바본가봐 3. Sal Da Ga by 워너비 (SG Wannabe) Recommend tracks 8, 9, and 10. For those who are interested, sorry for the websites in Hangul, but it's hard to find a great Korean pop website in English. Another good reason for learning Korean Quote
skylee Posted October 8, 2005 at 01:05 PM Report Posted October 8, 2005 at 01:05 PM I like 成人禮 sung by 朴志胤. Although it is a few years old now. Listen -> http://218.75.5.122/ok_jenndhj/momonjxx/200551039873829.mp3 Quote

bhchao Posted October 9, 2005 at 09:23 PM Author Report Posted October 9, 2005 at 09:23 PM thanks for the correction and info Skylee. Here is the music video for the first track on Ivy's album. The girl in the video is Ivy herself. Looks like she is a talented dancer and singer. http://music.damoim.net/pages/mview.asp?seq=208&page=1 Quote
TCcookie Posted October 12, 2005 at 06:08 PM Report Posted October 12, 2005 at 06:08 PM As long as we're talking about Korean pop... There's a Korean pop song by Lee Jung Hyun I quite enjoy called "Wa" or "Come On." I think it's at least somewhat known in China because I bought some CDs of hers in Beijing recently. I have also heard this song done in Chinese, but the singer was different (also female) and the arrangement sounded slightly different (a little slower; perhaps less "electronic"). Does anyone know who this mystery singer is and what the Chinese name for the song is? I would love to find a copy. Thanks. Quote
wai ming Posted October 13, 2005 at 08:01 AM Report Posted October 13, 2005 at 08:01 AM TCcookie, I think the Chinese version is called 《独一无二》 by Sammi Cheng (郑秀文). She also did a Chinese cover of Lee Jung Hyun's "pakkuo" (바꿔) called 《眉飞色舞》。 Quote
Lu Posted October 13, 2005 at 01:26 PM Report Posted October 13, 2005 at 01:26 PM "These singers can really sing" does not sound like much of a recommendation for Korean pop to me... Quote
bhchao Posted October 13, 2005 at 04:31 PM Author Report Posted October 13, 2005 at 04:31 PM Lu, that was my own personal opinion, not a recommendation for Korean pop. I am not advocating that you listen to Korean pop. Quote
TCcookie Posted October 14, 2005 at 03:57 PM Report Posted October 14, 2005 at 03:57 PM Thank you wai ming! That has been bothering me since I heard it the first time! Quote
lpascoe Posted October 14, 2005 at 05:28 PM Report Posted October 14, 2005 at 05:28 PM I've been listening to the OST for Sassy Girl Chun-Hyang recently. I'm hooked. Quote
bhchao Posted October 15, 2005 at 04:58 AM Author Report Posted October 15, 2005 at 04:58 AM I like this song from My Sassy Girl (although it's a little old): I Believe Quote
Ferno Posted October 21, 2005 at 11:53 PM Report Posted October 21, 2005 at 11:53 PM i luv k-pop and j-pop they have much more upbeat/fast songs than Chinese pop because they don't have to worry about the songs being hard to understand since their languages aren't tonal. k-pop sems to have more r&b type music than j-pop i think Quote
