How good of a sample is this speech for Beijing accent?

Hello.

I'd like to ask members on this forum about this person's accent in the following video.

Video

Skip the first minute. I am curious about the accent used by the man who speaks for the rest of the video.

I can safely say that this is definitely a northerner accent

but I am curious whether this is the "authentic" Beijing accent, meaning something that you would typically hear from someone born and grew up in Beijing. To my ears, it sounds like he speaks in "standard" accent sometimes and in very authentic accent other times.

Looking forward to your contributions.

Nope. The white guy does not speak with a Beijing accent. (His Chinese sounds real good to my ear, however.)

White guy?

Now, I am confused. I don't see any white guys in the video I linked.

Did you skip the first minute?

I am going to refer to the guy in question using his name to avoid confusion.

His name is 徐晓冬. He's the main guy that's featured in the videos on this YouTube channel.

Hmm! The video I watched is by a white guy in lockdown in Shanghai, worried about his dog and cat. Let me try again. Sorry! Don't know how I made that mistake. Must have clicked a link without realizing it.

And, yep. I think that 徐晓冬 is speaking 北京话。

Sounds Beijing to me. As he's telling this story, when he speaks the lines of the other characters he goes even heavier on the Beijing accent, like at 3:25.

@abcdefg I kinda want to hear this worried white guy now.

Yes, that's a Beijing accent. Be aware that different Beijing natives do speak differently. Just like you'll hear big differences in NYC.

Yes, he is German originally. Thomas 阿福. Has a Chinese wife, who appears in some of his videos. Lives in or near Shanghai, I believe.
