kunstefan Posted March 5, 2023 at 01:45 PM Report Posted March 5, 2023 at 01:45 PM Hello! I have here a vintage watercolor painting and I want to find out the aritsts name. I am not 100%sure, if its chinese. Maybe someone can read it or have an idea. Black writing and red seal. Thank you once more for your help! https://www.kunstefan.de/vorschau/cat1.jpg Quote
大块头 Posted March 5, 2023 at 05:01 PM Report Posted March 5, 2023 at 05:01 PM It looks like markings meant to look like Chinese or Japanese, but created by someone with no knowledge of either language... Reminds me of this painting my grandma has hanging in her condo. 1 Quote
Lu Posted March 5, 2023 at 09:04 PM Report Posted March 5, 2023 at 09:04 PM I wonder if it's even Chinese. It looks a lot like it simply says LE - JAI, with Chineesy letters in a Chineesy stamp. The paiting itself doesn't look Chinese in any way to me either, though I'm not especially knowledgable about Chinese art. 1 Quote
kunstefan Posted March 10, 2023 at 09:19 AM Author Report Posted March 10, 2023 at 09:19 AM Hello @Lu and @大块头 Thank you! Is it possible, that it could mean 辶当 or 之 当 ? Quote
Lu Posted March 10, 2023 at 09:43 AM Report Posted March 10, 2023 at 09:43 AM It's possible that the painter had those characters in mind. But then I still wonder what the painter intended them to mean, because 之当 is meaningless to me and 辶当 is not even an existing character. 1 Quote
kunstefan Posted March 10, 2023 at 09:51 AM Author Report Posted March 10, 2023 at 09:51 AM @Lu Thank you once more! Yes its a riddle. I guess maybe it could mean Chuo Dang or Zhi Dang. But I give up. I will find no solution ? Quote
