Can anyone give me advice from their own experiences, -what are the perils and pitfalls of conducting business in China. -is communication and the language barrier a problem? -are their many payment and banking problems or financial and legal issues? -any advice about general living and getting about? Alicante9797 Posted November 23, 2005 at 01:43 PM Report Posted November 23, 2005 at 01:43 PM Hi, I have a similar situation, but based on some limited experience, I will suggest you use the network on www.guanxi.com to build some relationships. (Very important in China) You find me as "NordicAsiaUSA" Speaking english does not help you much except inside larger companies. So to get around, pre-write messages to Hotels and addresses you will visit (and they better be in Chinese if you want the taxi driver to get you to the right place....) Finding a english speaking student or other person to travel around with may actually be the best solution the first few times. I have not had any problems with banking or financial services there...visa and mastercard works, but more esoteric british cards may not. And of course: Be aware that 100.000 people are killed in traffic every year...partly because (belive iot or not..) Pedestrians has to give away for cars and bicycles....does not matter if you are waling on green in a market crossing.....so watch out: The cars do NOT stop for you! Kind regards, tn@venturetechnorway.com Quote
