Negative answer to 你要回国了吗？

Beginner here! I apologise if the question 你要回国了吗？is formed incorrectly in the first place.

My dilemma is whether it is correct to say: 没有，我没要回国。(I intend to say: I am not returning to the country soon.) The meaning I am aiming for is the negative form of  "soon do something". (the HSK2 要。。。了 structure)

“没有，我没要回国”is correct.

I would try to "soften" the reply. Make it less blunt. Probably would say something like "我不可以回国。“  Or "I regret that I cannot go back." 恐怕不可以回国。

 

I am not a grammar person, so take this with a grain of salt. I have vowed many times not to reply to questions like this, yet I continue to make a fool of myself.

I'd be likely to "just say no" as well, maybe something like: 不，沒那樣打算

it means not return the country soon,which mean might go back later but not now

That actually sounds rather harsh to me. 'I cannot return', I would immediately be concerned as to why. No money for a plane ticket? Family disowned you? Country at war?
