Popular Post markhavemann Posted April 27, 2023 at 03:22 AM Popular Post Report Posted April 27, 2023 at 03:22 AM Alternative page for this project (in case the forums go down again): https://sinodex.online/projects/show2anki/jia-you-er-nu Since lots of people have been interested in the Transcription Project over the years, but transcripts and subs aren't all that useful by themselves, here's my first little effort to do a little more with them, and make starting to watch TV shows more accessible for people. I'll do more episodes over time, and maybe some other TV shows and possibly sentence decks with audio if people are interested. 家有儿女 S01 E01-10 Anki Deck: Available on Google Drive here If you want to see what the Anki cards look like you can see the cards in this post. Feel free to change them yourself though. Stats: For now check newer posts on this forum because I will post stats as I add new episodes, rather than updating them here. Current Progress on episodes that have existing transcripts: Episode Complete S01E01 ✅ S01E02 ✅ S01E03 ✅ S01E04 ✅ S01E05 ✅ S01E06 ✅ S01E07 ✅ S01E08 ✅ S01E09 ✅ S01E10 ✅ S01E11 S01E12 S01E13 S01E14 S01E15 S01E16 S01E17 S01E18 S01E19 S01E20 S01E21 S01E22 S01E23 S01E56 Note on stats and HSK tagging: HSK equivalent vocab 那 and 个 are both HSK 1, so when 那个 occurs as a word of it’s own, it’s counted as HSK 1 to reduce unnecessarily easy non-HSK words when studying decks that exclude HSK 1, and also give a better idea of difficulty. New Members hellen_gr Posted September 3, 2023 at 11:25 AM New Members Report Posted September 3, 2023 at 11:25 AM Thanks @markhavemann. I really like the deck and started using it. I have a question though. Maybe it's just an issue on my side, but I can't make the audio work - I get an error message saying "Card content error. Failed to load 'tiap pi.mp3'". The size of the deck is around 180 kb which also make me wonder if this is enough to contain any audio? Thanks again for the great work ? ? Quote

I'll try to figure it out and updated the deck file. I've uploaded a file with all the audio into the same folder as the deck, called collection.media.zip. You can unzip this into your Anki media folder and the audio should work. On 9/3/2023 at 7:25 PM, hellen_gr said: Thanks @markhavemann. Now that I know it's being used, I'll do a few more soon! 1 Quote
markhavemann Posted September 6, 2023 at 02:04 AM Author Report Posted September 6, 2023 at 02:04 AM Update 2023/09/06: I've figured out why the audio isn't being included in the decks and fixed it. The file size should reflect this too: Processed episode 2 and included it in an updated deck file, with each episode in a sub deck: Names are now separated out as a special vocabulary item, and also included in the decks Updated stats: (The graph labels are a bit messed up but hopefully I'll get to fixing that soon) Seeing how HSK 1-4 vocabulary makes up the vast majority of words used really proves what a great first show this is I think. Hopefully I'll do some more shows soon to see some comparisons. 3 Quote
New Members hellen_gr Posted September 14, 2023 at 07:31 PM New Members Report Posted September 14, 2023 at 07:31 PM Thanks a lot Mark - I can confirm the audio synchronize smoothly now - what an improvement! I'll keep working my way through the first episodes - :) Quote
Explore Chinese Posted September 18, 2023 at 09:42 AM Report Posted September 18, 2023 at 09:42 AM Going to leave a comment here to follow this topic. I've been interested in this series for a long time, but the availability of this kind of content to help learners enjoy it rather than getting lost is a great idea! Fully support. Quote
markhavemann Posted October 15, 2023 at 02:53 AM Author Report Posted October 15, 2023 at 02:53 AM I've added a new deck which has vocab from episodes 1-6. Also, I've made an external website as a backup to host this content too (although I will still post updates in this thread). You can visit it here: https://sinodex.online/projects/show2anki/jia-you-er-nu 1 1 Quote

Thanks for the encouragement! It's nice to know that this stuff is actually useful for others, I've been working on some other things but I'll try to finish up to episode 10 soon. 1 Quote
markhavemann Posted November 1, 2023 at 09:35 AM Author Report Posted November 1, 2023 at 09:35 AM As promised, I've finished up to episode 10 and uploaded a new deck. I had mostly finished it and was just procrastinating exporting and uploading, so here it is. If anybody finds any errors just let me know. Hopefully I'll add HSK tags soon to make it easy to mass delete cards that are too easy for you. Quote
suMMit Posted November 3, 2023 at 04:32 PM Report Posted November 3, 2023 at 04:32 PM I go through phases of watching 家有儿女, I'm up to 73 episodes. I never "study" it, just watch it and what I don't know, I don't know. I think it would be good to pause and read the subtiltes every tenth episode or so, but I have never gotten around to it. I find it interesting that although most of the vocabulary is hsk 1-4, it's not THAT easy, it's fast and slurred and very Beijing. Imo they speak pretty much like a real family in North China. It's helped me to better keep up with my wife and my mother in law's fast speech. I like how they have a meal in every episode. 1 Quote

That's very much been my experience, too. I regularly listen to Chinese news and podcasts without too much of a problem (my comprehension is a bit spotty, but I can mostly follow along). But when I watch this show, I'm completely lost. Quote
