Inga Agni Posted December 15, 2023 at 04:45 PM Report Posted December 15, 2023 at 04:45 PM Hi everyone! Could somebody be so kind to help me with the meaning behind those xiangdao signs? These are molds for incense ceremony Xiangdao. I've tried some machine translation from the picture but could get only one because it is stylised. About number 3 it said "scroll/roll value" which made no sense for me in this context. Deeply appreciate your kind help!? Quote
cncorrect Posted December 16, 2023 at 03:19 AM Report Posted December 16, 2023 at 03:19 AM Number 3 is easy. Read from right to left. The two characters are '随缘', which means 'Let it go'. Number 1 and 2 seem to be characters from a Taoist seal stamp. They are linked with the Taoism religion. I also don't know the meaning, but I found an article: https://dao-world.org/2022/07/14/100-taoist-seals-and-their-use/. 3 Quote

The right part of the inscription is in the upper part, so it is clockwise turn? Thank you, and have a good day! Quote

No, it's not rotated, because I can read the two characters '随缘' directly from right to left, not like in a mirror. The ancient written Chinese needed to be read from right to left. 1 Quote
