Thoughts on Jia Zhangke?

Does anyone else like this director? He has a new film coming out this year: Caught by the Tides.

I have watched his three most recent movies (2013 A Touch of Sin, 2015 Mountains May Depart, 2018 Ash Is Purest White) and recommend them all, specially Ash Is Purest White. The actress Zhao Tao appears in all 4 films and is absolutely wonderful. I haven't watched any of his older stuff, any recomendations?

I liked all his films. My favourite is 24 City (2008), about the life (and death) of a State owned factory under the economic reforms at the end of the last Century.

I have watched all of his movie during my Chinese bachelor, and I have to admit I love the old ones better. My favorite is Xiao wu, because I had to do a presentation and make a comparison with Bresson's Pickpocket (1959 French movie), I didn't really liked it that much at first but as I went really deep in the analysis of Xiao wu and watched the movie a couple times, the character and the story just grew on me, and some scene had a really powerful soundtrack...
