New Members Shrinks Posted June 29, 2024 at 02:07 PM New Members Report Share Posted June 29, 2024 at 02:07 PM Someone recommended I post this here from Reddit. Happy to discover and join the forums! I’m hoping to get a lesson with an expert Mandarin speaker who’s first language is English. I’m trying to setup my learning method to be effective and efficient. I’ve been combing the internet for advice on this, and I have a lot of the puzzle pieces (few ways to set up Pleco, listening resources, SRS, etc). I’m just unsure how to properly set them up for my needs and have some additional questions. My guess is that a non-native speaker, who learned Mandarin well, might be able to show me how to set all of this up in Pleco and answer questions that I have in 30-60 minutes. I’d be happy to pay well for this, especially if it could be done before Monday morning Taipei Standard Time. For some context: I scored advanced-mid on the OPI about 8 months ago and I’m jumping into a masters degree for Mandarin at my university. I previously lived in Taiwan for a few years where I worked and studied almost exclusively from physical flash cards and talking on the street. I’m hoping to bring my studying into the 21st century. Thank you!
Tomsima Posted June 29, 2024 at 03:50 PM Report Share Posted June 29, 2024 at 03:50 PM There are plenty of us here, but if you're looking for someone to actually sit down and take you through your set up, presumably you are based in TW and will need somebody who is also currently there too?
New Members Shrinks Posted June 29, 2024 at 11:49 PM Author New Members Report Share Posted June 29, 2024 at 11:49 PM Hey Tomsima! thanks for the reply. I suspect a zoom call where we share screens should be enough, so I don’t think I necessarily need someone in-person in Taiwan. But that of course would be very convenient. Yes, I’d like a seasoned learner to walk me through how to best set everything up. I feel like I’m just spinning my wheels here
