Tomorrow is World Bai Jiu day, Fri 8/9th. It reminded me to make a Baijiu post. A friend of mine here in Beijing is the organizer of WBD.

This year he's got over 50 bars worldwide participating: https://worldbaijiuday.com/wbd-2024/?fbclid=IwY2xjawEhoJpleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHW9srpZRiKBqGqN7KQbGHcb0fx63rUSerIpR7Pc-pClzlnESvbLlS3v1KA_aem_MYfU8uqwkNWVqy_4z8YyPQ

Anyone else here a 白酒 fan? or hater? What have you tried?

I've got a little collection at home, mostly picked up on various trips. My favorite go to is the regular old 55块 bottle of Fenjiu (汾酒 ).

Never was a connoisseur, but I did learn to sip it on occasion with friends as part of a meal. I only bought high-end bottles like those on your shelf for gifts.

Every spring, I used high-proof, inexpensive 二锅头 to make a batch of slow-steeped fruit liquor. Yangmei was my favorite. Learned the method from local (Kunming) friends.

A couple years, I got in the swing of also making my own limoncello, using baijiu 白酒。Came out real good. Worth a try if you enjoy the Italian original. https://www.chinese-forums.com/forums/topic/55547-middle-kingdom-limoncello/

I'm not a big fan of baijiu generally (despite having tried a lot of brands), but Fenjiu is the exception for me - v smooth and drinkable, little to no hangover the next day, and doesn't have that 'jetfuel' taste that Er Guo Tou has.
