New Members D4xn Posted September 23, 2024 at 08:15 PM New Members Report Posted September 23, 2024 at 08:15 PM I've been studying Chinese for about 3 years now, and I recently found out I don't even know what my Chinese name means. Anyone willing to help me out and give me their opinion? 达安 Da An This is my Chinese name, and my Dutch name is Daan, so it feels like she chose the easy way.... ???? Quote
abcdefg Posted September 29, 2024 at 01:33 AM Report Posted September 29, 2024 at 01:33 AM Seems to be a phonetic equivalent to your Dutch name. Sounds similar. Probably chosen for you on that basis, not on the basis of it's meaning. Quote
TheWayfarer Posted September 29, 2024 at 06:54 AM Report Posted September 29, 2024 at 06:54 AM The general sense of the two characters: - 达 means 'reach, achieve, attain, etc.' - 安 means 'peace, calm, secure, etc.' Thus the characters together suggest something like 'attaining peace.' Also, both 达 and 安 can be surnames, so starting your Chinese name with 达 has that going for it too. And it sounds like your Dutch name. Altogether not a bad name at all, I think 🙂 1 Quote
