A little observation: the spanish translation texts seems to be slightly easier than the english ones. This could be simply due to my difference in familiarity between them, but the spanish text has a lot of repeated words and synonyms while the english texts have a broader vocabulary. I don't speak the other languages here, but it'll be interesting to hear other people's opinions on this

As for the translation themselves, they don't actually seem too hard. Their example answers are extremely similar to the texts I would encounter during HSK5, so maybe they're still pretty lenient with the writing's content like they are with the current HSK (like HSK5 which requires you to write a whopping 80 characters "essay"!). But still, although I really like the idea of a translation section, it still rubs me off the wrong way. Why if I just don't speak any of the languages offered by the HSK? My native isn't one of them, would I have to learn Spanish or English just to pass a Chinese test? Seems poorly thought out

I don't think this is the official tests book so it might not actually be representative of the actual tests. When I called the publisher asking about English she said she didn't know if it was "out yet” then she checked and said oh yes it's up on the app, so the implication was they were in the process of adding languages, which I guess means there will be more, and might be why they chose to use a WeChat miniapp since it's easy to add content to. It will still be difficult to provide for every language though.

As for as the actual test, there might be a lot more languages. The official HSK site says the translation part asks you to:

Quote

Translate explanatory, narrative, and argumentative texts from foreign languages to Chinese, both in written and oral forms.

so it doesn't seem to limit the languages they aim to have.

I just saw that there are three official mock tests online too and I'd be curious to see which languages they offer there. For some reason these cost 300rmb to do PER TEST, which is a bit more than I'm willing to pay at the moment just to have a look.

Here is the link for anyone who is interested.
