I want to go to Taiwan (Taipei) for a few weeks this January. But airplane tickets from Holland to Taipei are so expensive, the cheapest I found was 1100 euro, while tickets to Beijing or Hongkong are only 500 to 600 euro.

So I'm thinking, maybe I can buy a ticket Amsterdam-Hongkong and then in Hongkong get a ticket Hongkong-Taipei. I figure that should be cheaper. The best would be if I could arrange the HK-TP ticket in advance and have it sent to me, so that I don’t have to stay in Hongkong just to get my ticket (nothing against Hongkong, just that the place I want to go is Taipei).

Does anyone know if this is doable? And what HK airlines or travel agencies could I contact to arrange a ticket? Or does anyone have other ideas as how to get from Holland to Taipei for not-too-much money?

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you could buy a HK/Taipei return e-ticket online (so no delivery will be required)? When I want domestic flight tickets (like between Sydney and Melbourne) I buy them on-line, cheap, fast and easy.

You could check the CX website -> http://www.cathaypacific.com

The price looks a bit high. Perhaps you should wait a bit and check regularly to see if there are any discounts.

Or perhaps you could check out these websites to see if there are cheap e-tickets that fit you (such as Dragonair at about HKD 1800) ->

even if you buy a holland to taibei ticket, you will still stop off at hong kong or thailand anyway... i dont think its possible to fly direct to taiwan from the EU... dragon airways (港龍) are pretty much the cheapest tickets from hong kong to taiwan...

try lufthansa they might be cheaper than cathay if you are buying in europe

Thanks for your tips!

I searched the sites you mentioned, but Amsterdam-HK + HK-Taipei was about as expensive as A'dam-Taipei, so my idea didn't work. But in the end I found a cheap ticket on statravel.de, Frankfurt-Taipei for less than 800 euro (and it is a direct flight).

I just checked out EVA Air's website, http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/ and plugged in two random dates in January. The fare was 920 Euros. I know you booked your tickets already (and possibly cheaper for the entire itinerary), but in the future you may want to check out EVA Air's website directly.
