Majiang 麻将

Hi again!

I would REALLY like to learn Majiang. I do have some basics, but my basics are REALLY basic, if you know what I mean. I don’t get much out of reading the little booklets you get when you buy a Majiang set, so I would like to play and learn at the same time. Now, here’s the question: is there an online place where you can just play without having to pay any fee? Thanks,

Anyone else had this experience?

You go to the home of a chinese family. You learn Mah-jong (spell this word as you please!). It's not easy, cos they play at 100 miles an hour, and they don't want to wait for the beginner, but finally you pretty much work out the arcane stuff with the flower tiles, etc, and you can play a little bit.

You go to another house. The rules are a bit different. Nobody seems to know that the rules are different in various places though. You told them you can play mah-jong and they can't understand why you are being so rubbish. They stand behind and give you "advice", which is always unhelpful and annoying. Anyway, eventually you kind of work out their system.

You go to another place. The rules there are a bit different again. Ad infinitum.

Where are you all? I'm keen to learn as well.....I'm a bit like Randall, I've played a bit but a basic watered-down westernised version......Anyone in Beijing (or specifically around Wudaokou) that wants to get together and learn? Ultimately with a patient Chinese person who is prepared to play slowly........
